HOT TIPS FOR STEAM COILS !!
Support all piping independently of coil.
Provide swing joints or flexible fittings at all piping connections. Coils cannot withstand excessive expansion and contraction associated with long runs of pipe.
Take precautions to eliminate the possibility of water hammer.
Selection of proper Steam Trap is required. Float & Thermostatic Steam Traps are a MUST for modulated applications.
Each coil must be trapped independently.
Coils with Fin Lengths over 72" require two (2) steam feeds (one on each end).
Do NOT bush down or reduce return line sizes on Steam Coils. Return lines and fittings must be the same size as coil outlet.
During start-up, steam should be on for several minutes before dampers are allowed to open.
Systems with overhead returns must NOT be modulated unless a properly sized condensate pump is installed.
Traps must be located a minimum of 12" (inches) BELOW the condensate fitting to insure proper drainage.
